Functional Integration® (FI) is one-on-one Feldenkrais work. It is the fastest way to receive benefit from the Method since it focuses on the specific needs of an individual. The Feldenkrais practitioner uses gentle, non-invasive hands on guidance and/or verbal instruction to help you develop the necessary self-awareness to make the changes you are hoping for. This guidance sensitively disrupts problematic habits and simultaneously offers options for creating more beneficial ones.
In order to help you reinforce the benefits of the session you will be given homework in the form of specific movements or self-awareness exercises.
In Functional Integration you will often be in a comfortable lying position. You may also be sitting, standing or walking. An FI is sometimes given through words and sometimes in silence. You are always fully clothed.
Awareness Through Movement® (ATM) are Feldenkrais lessons taught in a group setting. In addition to awakening an overall sense of well-being, ATMs increase flexibility, coordination and physical comfort.
ATM lessons are movement sequences designed to awaken the brain to new possibilities and more effective habits. These sequences do not require strength or flexibility. Their challenge lies in moving in unusual and unfamiliar ways. The novel nature of ATMs gives new information to the brain that expands the brain’s repertoire of movement options.
